Dare to do…
…what makes you cry tears of joy.
…what makes you laugh.
…what fills you with awe. Limitless love. Fiery passion. Frisky playfulness. Or… what ever it is that you desire.
What do you long for? How do you want to feel? Focus on that. Do more of that.
For the whole year.
Perhaps there’s something you’ve been toying with. For years. Make this year, make today, the day you start.
Five minutes is all it takes. To begin to dance with a dream.
365 Day Challenge
Mine is the photo-a-day project. I’ve flirted with classes, but because of the money and time commitment required I’ve said no.
A few days ago, I received an email from iPhone Photography School that asked: Lisa, are you up for the challenge? I expected to say no, because I thought it was an invitation to their video course, which I don’t have time to add to my full plate.
To my surprise, the challenge was much simpler: For each day of 2015, take at least one photo with your iPhone and share it on social media.
Hmm, I think could do that. I clicked through and read this article about one editor’s experience with her photo-a-day project.
I recently joined instagram. It feels like a good fit. Some of the accounts I’m following are such fabulous photographers, it feels almost like I’ve enrolled in a photography course. I can make it one by taking pictures.
I’m enamored with sunset. Here’s my first few. I impressed myself with the one on the top left, that’s when my heart said yes to the 365 day photo challenge.
Today is day three.
I do well with simple daily challenges. And daily prompts. I just completed Be Your Own Light. When I purchased the course (on sale), I expected to save it for January because I was over-whelmed with writing commitments. When Vivienne sent an encouraging note, I decided to keep it simple. I took five-minute photoplay breaks (inspired by my regular dance breaks) just like I did the Thanksgiving week smile experiment, which is where I deepened my understanding of good enough.
I’m so glad I did. I love light hunting. And my skills have already improved. And I’m full of creative ideas I can’t wait to play with!
What will you dare to do every day for 365 days?
I plan go through the light prompts again. I’ll make each one the focus for a week to satisfy the side of me that likes to dive deep and immerse. And because I want to make time for 52 one-hour DSLR photo walks.
What do you want to make time for? How can you do it in a way that both challenges and nurtures you?
Does a daily challenge for an entire year freak you out? If so, perhaps a weekly challenge is more your speed?
Don’t set yourself an impossible, unreachable mountain to climb. Take yourself on a fun adventure. Let it tantalize and entice rather than freeze you in fear.
Last year, when I spontaneously stepped into daily dancing, I’d already had a regular at home dance practice. Many impromptu moments of bus stop, kitchen and chair dancing. Two prior month long spine circle challenges. And a year of weekly beach dancing (which was preceded by a bunch of random monthly jaunts).
If daily for a year feels like too much, commit to a year of 30-day challenges. One year I did that. Jan was green smoothies. Feb was 10 pm offline/off TV. May sunrise walks stretched into to July and continue most days even now.
Or play with a 28-day moon month adventure.
My years of beach dancing with the moon have me more apt to experiment with waxing crescent moon to dark moon adventures now. The next new moon is 5:14 am on Tuesday Jan 20, which means the crescent moon will be visible a night or two later, low in the western sky after sunset. I’ll be conjuring magic on the beach with Iemanja.
This gives you time to ponder what you desire. Be open to invitations that come your way.
Say YES when you heart leaps or skips a beat.
Dare to develop a daily or weekly practice. Find the frequency and the duration that feels just right for you.
Continue those that feed you. Drop those that don’t.
Dance With Your Dream
Dancing begets dancing. Light hunting brings more light. Writing makes me want to write more.
In my experience, it’s this consistent practice that enables our hearts to expand and grow. It can (and will) happen in a moment. There will be magic, synchronicity and serendipity.
Will you be there, dancing and doing your thing, to receive what the universe wants to give you?
Whatever your 2015 dream is…. It is delightfully doable. Especially when you dance with it.
