Dance heals and transforms. Nature does too. When you put the two together magic happens. Everytime.
On Saturday November 9, 2013 I hosted a spontaneous Get Embodied Sisterhood Dance Party to conjure healing energy for Doborah Cohan, the woman who had a dance party in the operating room before her double mastectomy.
I felt an instant kinship with Deborah when I read her story.
My fantasy is for you to play the song (found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RioOJ7dZxuw) and dance wherever you happen to be… It would be extra remarkable if you could send me a photo (or, better yet, a short video segment) of you dancing. I have visions of a healing video montage. Nothing brings me greater joy than catalyzing others to dance, move, be in their bodies. Are you with me people?
Absolutely! As a San Francisco spirit sister I couldn’t resist dancing in nature to contribute to Deborah’s wished for video montage.
Almost Chickened Out
Despite the fact that I’ve danced at Baker or Ocean beach each week since January when the studio I danced at for 7 years closed, I almost chickened out.
When I arrived an hour after sunrise instead of the expected near empty beach, I discovered the entire waterline—where I typically dance with the waves after warming up in the sand—lined with fishermen.
I asked a women sitting in a chair behind one what they were fishing for.
“They’re not fishing. They’re catching crabs. They’re were just 4 of us a couple days ago, but somebody let the cat out of the bag.”
Sigh. I considered leaving. But what if one of the friends I invited actually showed up.
I was here to stir up sisterly support for Deborah. And Sonny (a friend’s infant son who’d just had open heart surgery.) I couldn’t let the crabbers (and inaccessible water derail) me.
If Deborah could dance before surgery, I could dance without waves.
